Spotlight: We Stand in the Middle

VWBPE 2025 Spotlight
Presented: April 04, 2025

“We Stand in the Middle” is the title of both my latest novel and the virtual space I’ve created based on it.

“We Stand in the Middle” is a Cherokee Indian phrase that expresses their belief that their role on the planet is to maintain balance (body, mind, and spirit) with and learn from the natural world. By building my story in both physical and virtual realities, I’ve come to see myself as someone who stands in the middle as well. I use written and immersive, interactive, virtual stories to explore and enhance our understanding of what it means to be human.

In this presentation I’ll share: What it means to Stand in the Middle; My reasons for creating a virtual version of my story; & My vision for how educators can use 3D virtual stories to have a powerful, positive, & lasting impact on how and what their students learn.

I'll finish with a short Q&A session & an invitation to visit the 3D version of "We Stand in the Middle" by joining my immersive presentation.

Objectives:
To explore how physical and virtual stories can have a powerful impact on what & how students learn.
