Spotlight: VR in Science and Education II: Dinosaurs

VWBPE 2025 Spotlight
Presented: April 04, 2025
Speaker: Dae Miami (Dr. William F. Schmachtenberg, Ph.D., Virginia Museum of Natural History)
Categories: Research and Studies

Discover how Virtual Reality (VR) transforms educational experiences in museums through a compelling case study from the Virginia Museum. During the summer of 2024, a Late Cretaceous VR simulation was introduced to museum guests who, before and after the experience, took a quiz on the period. Results showed an impressive average quiz score increase of 32%, with young children showing the highest engagement and learning gains. This presentation will explore how VR can make museum visits more interactive and educational, providing guests, especially families, with a deeply immersive way to learn about historical life and environments, thereby enhancing the transition from traditional to modern educational methods in museum settings.

Objective:
To show how a VR VW can effectively educate families at a RL museum.
