EYE am EVERYWHERE: The Boys & Girls Club community reinterpret the Lizard of ARS/ART
VWBPE 2021 Presentation
Presented: March 20, 2021
Speaker: Mary Stokrocki (RL) Marylou Goldrosen (SL), Arizona State University
I invited middle school kids from our local Boys and Girls Club to reinterpret Wizard of OZ on the Opensimulator with me. I adapted what Baum (1900) said, "I am everywhere, but to the eyes of common mortals, I am invisible" (p. 132). Trying to get kids to sit, let alone talk, can be difficult. I offer some creative and fun ways of getting them to respond visually and verbally and consider the desert context as the motivation. Surprising results spin as the instructor learns with students.
- Participants will learn to create/build masks, play, and installation.
- Encourage Critical Thinking Approach uncovers the privileged boundaries of art, social behavior, etc.
