VWBPE 2021 Immersive Experience

A demonstration of using OpenSimulator affordances (Digital Teaching Assistants) to provide introductory learning about any topic with concrete (visible) parts. This demonstration introduces the parts (here garden plants), showing 3D images of them in a typical location (situated learning). The images have links to detailed information, starting with the technical name. Suggestions are offered for using such a place for name-to-object learning and for testing the level of learning.

• Participants will learn about accessible adaptive AI driven Digital Teaching Assistants (DiTAs).
• Participants will learn how interactive immersive experiences enhance introductory learning.

Directions: Metaverse Depot Grid. Options for access:

1. Create an account on the Metaverse Depot Grid can be created (ahead of time) for any participant. Once logged in, find the Infinite Metaverse Alliance region in your world map then teleport to: IMA outpost alpha grid.metaversedepot.com:8002:IMA Outpost Alpha
2. If you have an OpenSimulator account on any Hypergrid-enabled grid, (i.e. OSGrid, Kitely, OSCC, Avacon, 3rdRockGrid, Digiworldz), after login, find this region address in your world map then teleport  ( grid.metaversedepot.com:8002:ima outpost alpha ). Firestorm Viewer users: hop://grid.metaversedepot.com:8002:ima outpost alpha

SceneGate Viewer (http://downloads.infinitemetaverse.org/index.php/downloads/viewers/scenegate-viewer-windows) is recommended to demonstrate simple mode for new users and the immersive experience. Installation is free and will not impact other viewers installed.

Firestorm Viewer for OpenSimulator versions compatible with 0.8.x grids can be used for the immersive experience but negates the interactive demonstration for new users. You can test your version by accessing 3rd Rock Grid or Metaverse Depot Grid.

Singularity viewer is not recommended for this experience.

Using SceneGate Viewer:

1. Download and run the installer (self-extracting archive digitally signed by Infinite Metaverse Alliance).
2. Open the SceneGate Viewer then select a grid from the grid manager or add your own where you have an account to login at the bottom of the viewer.

If you had a previous version of SceneGate installed, you must do a clean install for it to reflect the changes made since the last test version. Here are the instructions for existing default Windows 10 installations:

1. Navigate to C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoaming then move (if you need to save chat transcripts) or delete the SceneGate folder.
2. Uninstall the SceneGate Viewer from your computer using Control Panel.
3. Download and run the installer (self-extracting archive digitally signed by Infinite Metaverse Alliance).
4. Open the SceneGate Viewer then select a grid from the grid manager or add your own where you have an account to login at the bottom of the viewer.
